Women's Pre-Olympic Hockey Game
The Swiss and Russian Women's Olympic hockey teams rented the ice at Brennan Park in Squamish for an exhibition game with the stipulation that the tickets be free for the event. Squamish residents embraced the opportunity to see Olympic hockey and excitement was in the air. No one was disappointed as the athletes went all out, taking the game into overtime to break the tie. Russia ended up winning the game but really it was Squamish who came out ahead as locals cheered on both teams. The players were all presented with Squamish scarves as gifts and keepsakes of the game.
