Organizers Carolyn Grass, Wanda Doyle, and Linda Bachman holding some of Martin Thorne's work

Save him from becoming a ... "Starving Artist"

The visual and performing arts community of Squamish came together to fundraise for Martin Thorne, local Woodturner and Furniture Maker, who will be unable to work for an extended period of time due to two knee surgeries. The two day benefit was held at the Brackendale Art Gallery and included an Antique Road Show with appraisals by Gale Pirie CPPA, a silent auction, an art exhibit by painter Suezan Aikins, an exhibit of Martin's works, live music with over 50 performers including Cedar Valley School, 3rd Octave Down, Megan Bell & Rachel Lutz, Cam Salay with Rick Morgan & Rita Kyle, The Devlins, Tessa Amy, Lotus, and Kostaman. Wanda Doyle, Linda Bachman, and Carolyn Grass did a wonderful job organizing and promoting this event that raised almost $7000 plus over $1500 of Martin's own works were sold. Martin Thorne was overwhelmed by the show of support and the money raised.
The community is still working towards a $10,000 goal so donations are still being accepted. If you would like to offer your support but didn't make it to the BAG, please contact Wanda Doyle at 604 896-0159 or Martin directly at his studio at 37791 3rd Ave downtown or call him at 604 892-6302. Wanda Doyle said, "We still need to keep Martin in mind all of next year as he gets his business and himself back on his feet. I'm so proud of the community. We have once again proven what a big heart, not to mention talented community we all are! Thank you everyone!".
